Café Rouge was founded in 1989 by Roger Myers and Karen Jones. Once it grew, it was merged with the Pelican Group, a large restaurant chain. The latter was then acquired by Whitbread PLC in 1996.
Over the years, they have received awards, such as Midas’s Mediterranean Casual Dining category and the Peach Network Hero and Icon Consumer Choice award.
It has also gained more popularity as the main character of the novel Bridget Jones’s Diary always visits her local restaurant branch. The group partnered with the Comic Relief Charity in 2013.
