History

George Chiu, James Chiu, Diana Chiu, and K.C. Chang founded Mandarin as a small à-la-carte restaurant in 1979 in Brampton. By 1986, they changed the restaurant’s concept into its current buffet style in order to accommodate the increased number of diners.

Despite the changes, the chain still adopts its mission of making every customer feel welcome as soon as he/she arrives as well as be happy when he/she leaves.

Today, each restaurant is owned and operated by its respective front and kitchen managing partners. The corporate headquarters of The Mandarin Restaurant are in Brampton, Ontario that also houses its warehouse as well as The Mandarin Brampton and The Garden Banquet & Convention Centre.

What Sets Them Apart

The Mandarin is the proud recipient of numerous consumer choice awards, including the Best Buffet by the Toronto Sun Readers for more than 20 years running. These awards are based on the world-class quality of the dishes and desserts including Tourtière, Poutine, Chocolate Dipped Bacon, and Maple-Glazed Salmon.

The restaurants also provide take-out and delivery services for their customers; each dish is prepared fresh to order.

Among its competitors are Buffet Island and Buffet Fever although the cuisines are somewhat different. Plus, The Mandarin Buffet elevates buffet dining into fine dining.
