History

The first Starbucks store opened in 1977 in the historic Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, in the US. It only had a narrow storefront, but they served some of the world’s finest fresh-roasted whole bean coffees, letting them gain a lot of attention among locals.

With a name that is inspired by Moby Dick and is a reference to the high seas and the sailing traditions of the early coffee traders, the coffee shop started to make a good name for itself that it has gotten the attention of Howard Schultz, today’s Starbucks chairman, president, and chief executive officer.

With a sip of his Sumatran coffee, he fell in love with the shop and decided to join the team in 1982. Later on, he was captivated by Italian coffee that he decided to bring the Italian coffeehouse tradition to the United States, giving birth to the Starbucks we know today: a place for conversations and a community.

What They are Famous For

While Starbucks is classified as a coffee shop, it offers more than just a few brews. In fact, it has a very varied menu. Some countries tend to get more, others less. There are also a lot of seasonal menu items to keep things exciting. But they are best known for the following products:

  • Different sorts of lattes. These creamy drinks may have diluted the coffee in grand ways, but people enjoy them immensely.
  • These cold drinks may be the exact opposite and sometimes even completely devoid of coffee, but they sell really well, especially in warmer climates.
  • Brewed coffee. There are still lots of people who go to Starbucks to grab a brew or two.

Aside from the drink, Starbucks is also famous for their ubiquity. With more than 23 thousand locations all over the world, you can pretty much say that this coffee empire is everywhere. Everyone knows where that plastic cup with green straw came from, making the brand not only successful but iconic as well.

Why Dine Here

There are tons of reasons why you should dine at Starbucks. They have great drinks, for one. Even if you’re not a coffee person, you’ll still find something worth enjoying from their roster of drinks. They also serve a good lot of sandwiches and pastries, so in case you’re feeling a bit hungry, you can always get something with your drink. Overall, Starbucks can give you a sweet or bitter fix, whichever you prefer.
